| The Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan says that
land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be
maintained, but Japan has dispatched the Self Defense Forces (SDF) to
Iraq following the US. This act is obviously against the constitution.
"Women's Society for Stop Dispatching the SDF to Iraq" called for immediate cancellation of dispatching the SDF to Iraq in Yurakucho, Tokyo in February 13. The participating women distributed handouts with chocolates since the following day was the Valentine's Day, and the representatives spoke out for anti-war, peace, and precious of life. Women workers in Japan Federation of Newspaper Worker's Unions (JFNU), Japan Federation of Aviation Workers' Unions (JFAU), and Japan Federation of Medical Worker's Unions (JFMU) called for this activity in Valentine's Eve, and we, Women Against War in JRU took part in it. Our 33 members joined in distributing handouts. Our representative, Ms Keiko Kise said that she opposed to dispatching the SDF to Iraq since it is against the Article 9 stressing the importance of human lives. The activity was the second action held by "Women's Society for Stop dispatching the SDF to Iraq". In the first action, the society's representatives requested the Prime Minister, Mr. Junichiro Koizumi not to dispatch the SDF to Iraq on January 13, followed by a rally where they planned this time’s Valentine’s Eve action.
About 12,000 people gathered on February 13 and marched on three different routes, one of which was 5km course through the front of the Diet. We, Women Against War in JR and Japan Confederation of Railway Workers' Unions (JRU) joined this Diet course march.
