Protest against the murder of Bro. Ko Moe Naung

On June 2, some ten members from JRU made a demonstration protesting against the murder of Bro. Ko Moe Naung in front of Burmese Embassy in Japan. gWe protest against this murderh, gRespect labor union righth, gDonft oppress workers in Burmah and gDonft violate human rightsh, the members called out.

Bro. Ko Moe Naung is an organizer of the Seafarersf Union of Burma (SUB) in Thailand and was allegedly arrested and tortured to death by the Burmese military forces on May 19. JRU condemns the Burmese regime for such cruel action as murder, torture or detention of union leaders, and detention and torture of union leaders.

The International Center for Labor Solidarity (ICLS) called on a joint action to protest against the Burmese Embassy. In response to it Korean and Philippinefs members took action on the same day.

In 2002, the SUB members had a demonstration protesting against the Japanese Embassy in Thailand and called for releasing seven members of JR-Urawa arrested and detained on charge of alleged coercion. That action encouraged the seven(JRU7) and the JRU members. Some from JRU7 joined todayfs action and it was good opportunity to show their solidarity in return.

JRU also visited the Thai Embassy to ask them to exam the murder. They promised to ask their government and report the answer to us.
